The waves were coming in like… Horses: venting about my tarot deck

What do you do when your tarot readings are to epic?  I love the World Tree Spread and the Wildwood Tarot’s art… I love the idea.  However, when I use the deck for general readings (though I only use the deck for myself, and only for certain kinds of issues), my readings are always kind of well… epic.  The deck in and of itself, is pretty epic.  If “epic” could be a theme of a tarot deck, I’d guess that the Wildwood Tarot fills that need.  Maybe that’s true, and then I guess my problem is, I don’t feel like “epic” applies to me.  I don’t feel like I have a “destiny.”  I can’t find my calling.  My reading today can be summarized as: “Your lack of creativity is your problem.  You are afraid of your destiny, you can either take charge and be reborn but only if you move away from ‘safe’ things and dedicate yourself to your fate.  You hope you have the courage: be active!”  What kind of Yoda shit is that, seriously?  This deck is both helpful and unendingly frustrating.  I’m LOST !  Say something helpful already.

But because the last card in the reading was the Horse… there’s always this:

About Pixie

I'm just your average 20-something trying to figure it out. I am also a theologian, yogi, witch, pagan, dirty hippie, activist (progressive politics), feminist, knitter, environmentalist, and friend. I've also been accused of being a hipster - I am not sure about that. I am sometimes happy to be Gen Y (go Harry Potter) and most of the time confused (seriously guys... ) by everyone else. My hobbies including knitting (and maybe crochet), quilting, recycling, cooking, writing, reading, and biking. I'm finishing up a masters in public policy and when I worked worked in political nonprofits as an activist.

  1. I feel the same way about that deck! I used it for awhile but the…well, epic nature…of it always left me kind of befuddled. I use the Shadowscapes deck now for my daily reading, and the Wildwood when I do divination for storytelling and plots.

Thanks! I’m glad it wasn’t just me who was getting epic answers. I was having better luck with it using it for sabbat readings and stuff. It was still epic but you know, in a way that was appropriate. I’ll probably keep using it for a bit to see if I can figure it out and make it less epic and more sensible but yeah, defiantly doesn’t replace my favorite deck: Zerner and Faber’s The Enchanted Tarot.
